Class Expectations

Mrs. Carew's Reminders:

Classroom Focus:  Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Reading and Literature explore a variety of genres while focusing on the 6 Traits of Reading:
*Decoding Conventions              *Establishing Comprehension
*Realizing Context                    *Developing Interpretations
*Integrating for Synthesis          *Critiquing for Evaluation
Students will be exposed to a variety of novels (Whole-Class Novel Studies, Literature Discussion Groups, and Independent Novels).

Outside Reading:
  Students are expected to read from self-selected books outside of class.  Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are required to turn in 3 Book Talk Sheets per quarter and weekly reading logs.  8th graders need to read 150 minutes per week, 7th graders need to read 125 minutes per week, and 6th graders are to read 100 minutes per week. These minutes are recorded on a Reading Minutes log and turned in on Fridays.  Students must have a parent or teacher's signature for each entry.
